The Municipal District of Wainwright does not require businesses located within the municipality to obtain a municipal permit or business license. It is recommended that anyone wishing to start a business contact the office with the business name and location so that it is on file for economic and promotional activity within our area.
Any new structures located on a property in relation to a business will require a development permit.
Please Note: A Home Occupation may require a municipal Development Permit. A Home Occupation is defined as any business, occupation, trade, profession or craft carried on by an occupant of a dwelling as a use secondary to the residential use of the parcel, and which does not significantly change the character thereof. A home occupation may include business conducted within accessory buildings developed on the parcel. Please note section 5.4.4.j and section 10.9 of the M.D. of Wainwright No. 61 Land Use Bylaw No.1695 for bylaws pertaining to Home Occupations.
